Study on fable books
and ornamental typography

This project explores the intersection of typography and storytelling through the design of a classical fable book. The concept began with a self-written fable inspired by reflections on the typography course experience, reimagined as a fairytale filled with challenges, lessons, and discoveries. To visualize this narrative, a two week research process was conducted on nineteenth century book design, focusing on typographic grids, ornamental details, and historical page formats. Insights such as the narrower proportions of traditional fable books informed the overall structure and design approach.

Several page spread variations were developed and refined to match the tone and pacing of the text. The contents page features ornamental type decorations reminiscent of vintage fairytale books, while graphic elements derived from course posters were reworked into symmetrical, decorative compositions that align with the classical layout system. The result is a book that merges historical design sensibilities with a contemporary and reflective narrative about learning and creativity.
